Chosen Schools

North Korea is in the news near constantly. Still it seems we know little about people who call themselves North Koreans - what kind of lives they lead, what kind of future they hope for.
An interesting Washington Post article examines Koreans who identify as North Koreans, who live in Japan. North Korea, as it turns out, did a much better job establishing a network of schools and community centers for Korea citizens abroad. So now there are more Koreans living in Japan who are tied into that North Korean network, while South-identified Koreans have tended to be more assimilated.
Being Korean in Japan is uniquely difficult. But it also seems to present a way for North Koreans to examine their politics and allegiances: Revolution Is Brewing at North Korean Schools in Japan. (from NBR's Japan Forum)
